What You Need In Your Backpack

BudgetSolo TravelCity BreakRecommendations

My List Of Things You Didn't Know You Needed I find that I am always being told that travelling is so expensive.

How do I do it? I pack my little life into a little bag. Being so close to Europe, I am fortunate to have access to a variety of city breaks across the continent. I find the cheapest flight, and I go.

The joy of city breaks is that all you need is a backpack. Backpacks are free to bring on planes, you don't need to pay an extra fare unlike a suitcase. So how do I pack my life into a backpack for a short trip? Here is the answer...

1. Buy a suitable backpack

I personally use the North Face Borealis Backpack. It is reasonably priced at roughly €125. This is a high quality backpack that has lasted me for years.

However, I have heard great reviews about the Oakley Enhance Hybrid. It is slightly smaller than the Borealis but it has a more efficient square shape making it easier to pack clothes into. This comes in at an approximate €135.

2. A microfibre towel

No specifics, Amazon is a great place to get a microfibre towel. They dry quickly and take up very little room in your backpack.

3. A waterproof washbag

I was gifted a waterproof washbag and it has been a life-changer. It keeps packaging, medication, and all else in between dry, especially if you get caught in the rain with a poor quality backpack.

The particular one that I use is from Rains. It comes in at €29.95 for the small bag.

4. Travel Adapter

Regardless of where you travel to, an adapter is an essential in your bag. Again, Amazon do a great selection of adapters. If you can get your hands on an adjustable one that has multiple adaptations then do.

5. Packing Cubes

Packing cubes are soooo worth it! They save so much space in your backpack and keep everything organised. Penneys/Primark or Amazon are great for getting some cheap packing cubes. I used them when I was backpacking Southeast Asia and they we a game changer.

6. Stainless Steel Water Bottles

Possibly the most important item in your backpack. Not only does it save money on plastic bottles but it is indestructable (almost) and keeps your water at the same temperature throughout the day. If you add up all the money that plastic water bottles cost you when travelling, especially during the summer, you would be shocked. Save money buy investing in one of these.

I use a Chilly's Stainless Steel Water Bottle but there are alternate versions such as Owala and Stanley. Amazon would also have budget friendly versions.
